Celtic Christianity

Celtic Christianity originated in Ireland sometime in the 3rd century, and by the 4th century had expanded into Scotland, England, and Wales. Celtic missionaries carried the religion into Scotland from west to east, and from south to north. The old and new religions blended into a local, monastically defined, decentralized early Christianity. It would compete with Roman catholicism, and after the 7th century, survive as a counter-religion with local roots.
