The Bible and Other Texts
Early Celtic Christianity had only bits and pieces of what later would become the bible, and no one monastery had more than a few of the basic primary materials of the religion. Illuminated manuscripts assisted monks in understanding and reading the story of Christianity from the chapters which they had. Only gradually did a more complete collection of chapters come into being. One of the great strengths of Roman Catholicism was its possession and definition of early materials brought together into the New Testament.
