Heraldry

Heraldry

In feudal Europe, including Scotland, an individual warrior was identified by his crest, arms, and banner. In an illiterate age, symbols were used to describe or identify an individual. A coat of arms contains a varying number of symbols which identified who the individual was. The study, granting, and use of those symbols is called heraldry.
