General History Surveys
The 19th century was fascinated by Highland folk culture and history, and scholars in places such as Edinburgh provided excellent general histories detailing the complicated local feuds among families and the struggle between regional families and the national government in Edinburgh. Most of these histories contain fairly detailed accounts of the family histories of the better known clans.
