History, 1000-1300
Between 1000 and 1300, much of Scotland faced challenges from a new version of the Christian religion and a new military structure known as feudalism coming in from the south. New ideas and institutions poured into the Borders and Lowlands of Scotland from England. Feudal monarchy and feudalism, armed knights on horseback, feudal castles and feudal families, Roman Catholic Christianity, and aggressive new monastic orders, all forced change upon Scotland and challenged and altered the old ways.
