Against Scotland in 1263
Edited by James Johnstone
40 pages. Downloadable pf.
This is an account of the Norwegian invasion of Scotland which concluded with the famous battle of Largs, and of the last year in the life of King Haco, who led that expedition in the year 1263. This ill-fated expedition concluded the active phase of Norwegian involvement in Scotland, and paved the way for the eventual consolidation of Scotland in the next two centuries. The account itself is drawn from the original Frisian and Flateyan Manuscripts, compiled in the period immediately after the events which they relate. This is a reprint of an edition which first appeared in 1782 and was reprinted in 1882. That later edition included for the first time footnotes explaining the text.
